A number of Corncrakes can now be heard calling throughout the island; such wildlife activity is a sure sign that summer is well and truly here.

The Barnacle and White Front geese have returned to Greenland, leaving a greatly reduced crop of grass that is a long way behind the fields on the mainland.

Early reports of Chough breeding are positive as the recent mild weather has been most helpful to young birds – a change from last year when the Island was hit by a hurricane on 23rd May.
